Ken Takakura, the internationally acclaimed Japanese actor who starred more than 200 films, passed away on November 10 at the age of eighty-three.
Tokyo International Film Festival had the privilege to screen his starred films in the past.
At the 3rd Tokyo International Film Festival (1989) , his starred film, “A Un”(Director: Yasuo Furuhata) was screened as the Opening film, and “Black Rain” (Director: Ridley Scott) was shown as the Special Invitational Screening film.

In 1994, “47 Ronin” (Director: Kon Ichikawa) was screened at the Competition section and awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 7th Tokyo International Film Festival.
In 2005, the 18th Tokyo International Film Festival was opened with the China=Japan co-production film “Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles” glamorously with attendance of the director Zhang Yimou and the actor Ken Takakura at the Opening Red Carpet.
