The winner of the 28th Tokyo International Film Festival’s Audience Award was announced on October 31, with the glory being given won by Italian comedy God Willing (Se Dio Vuole). Director Edoardo Falcone was in attendance at the award ceremony, and received the trophy with large smile before hoisting it over his head to an explosion of congratulations.
Falcone put his hands together and bowed politely, then said with a grin, “Arigato!” He gave his thanks to the audience, “I’m very happy to be here, and I’m so glad that so many people enjoyed the film. This is one of the very happy moments of my life.
In the film, a highly skilled but arrogant surgeon reevaluates his life after he receives an unexpected confession from his son in medical school. The story develops in ways impossible to predict, making for a feel-good comedy for adults about the depths of the human heart.
Born in Rome, Falcone joined the acting school of Roman theatrical performer Alessandro Fersen. In 2011 he worked on the screenplay of the film Escort in Love, which was chosen by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists to win the Nastro d’Argento award for Best Comedy. God Willing is Falcone’s directorial debut, and this is a brilliant achievement to commemorate his maiden work.
