The 28th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is pleased to announce the first-ever CM awards as a special project for our 30th anniversary. We are inviting short, witty commercials with the tagline “Any film is better than this!?” Entry is open to creators from around the world, whether they are professionals or amateurs. We look forward to discovering a surprising original commercial that will attract people to films.
Yoshimitsu SAWAMOTO (Silver and Bronze at Cannes Lions, Grand Prize at ADFEST and more), a leading CM planner in the Japanese ad industry, will serve on the jury and also submit his own original work to this competition. He says, “The theme can be understood in various ways. The simple tagline will show up at the end of a CM and some people might feel a contradiction between its image and the words. Nobody can predict whether we will see any high-quality works or disappointing ones at the end, so it is very exciting.”
In addition, Masaru NAGAI (Silver at Cannes Lions, Grand Prize at ADFEST and more), another notable CM director who debuted as a film director recently, will also serve on the jury. He thinks this will be a great opportunity for young creators to demonstrate their talent to the experts.
A creation by SAWAMOTO is available to watch on the special website. Submissions will be accepted from October 19 to October 29.
Details of the CM Awards
Submission Period: October 19 (Mon.) – October 29 (Thu.)
Qualifications: Open to everyone
Creation Requirements: A film of 30 minutes or less, using the tagline : “Any film is better than this!?”
Winner Announcement: October 31 (Sat.)
■Grand Prize: canon EOS 5D Mark Ⅲ and a zoom lens (EF24-70mm F4L IS USM)
■Silver Prize: canon EOS 7D and a zoom lens (EF-S18-200mm)
