Introduction

A sick man takes a sudden turn for the worse. His wife, who is caring for him at home, hurriedly contacts the family doctor, but something unexpected happens. This stunning, non-stop suspense centers on the desperate actions of an average housewife.

Rodrigo Plá’s previous effort, “The Delay”, lauded at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2012, dealt with a single mother, who, while working and raising her children, tries to cope with the added burden of a sick father. This work also focuses on a woman’s desperate attempts to save her bedridden husband. Both examine the state of the contemporary family from the perspective of the socially vulnerable, but this one has a stronger element of suspense while being both artistic and entertaining. The film maintains a sense of tension while carefully introducing each of the characters—an amazing technical achievement considering the 75-minute running time. It represents a new form of storytelling.
